About Michael

Michael Faye is the President and co-founder of GiveDirectly, and founder and CEO of Taptap Send.

GiveDirectly has been ranked a top international charity by GiveWell, recognized by FastCompany as one of the top 10 most innovative companies in finance, and was said to be “sending shockwaves through the charity sector” by the Guardian.

Taptap Send is an app that lets people send money back home to Africa and Asia instantly and at very low prices. Since launching in summer 2018, TTS has already moved tens of millions of dollars and reached tens of thousands of customers, and is backed by investors including Reid Hoffman, the Omidyar Network, and Helios

Michael’s work on international development has been published in the American Economic Review, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Foreign Affairs and he’s spoken extensively on development and philanthropy. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s community of Young Global Leaders, a term member of the Council of Foreign Relations, and was named one of Foreign Policy’s 100 leading Global Thinkers in 2013. He co-founded Segovia Technology (acquired in 2019 by Crown Agents Bank), which makes it easier for organizations to pay anyone, anytime, anywhere in the emerging markets. Previous to that, he was an Associate Partner at McKinsey. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard, where he also studied Math and Classics.
